CAF Fines Egypt $5,000 for Media Breach during 2025 AFCON.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $5,000 fine on the Egyptian national team for failing to comply with mandatory post-match media obligations at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The sanction follows Egypt’s opening group-stage match against Zimbabwe, where players and members of the technical crew reportedly boycotted post-match media activities. According to CAF, the entire Egyptian delegation passed through the mixed zone without engaging journalists, refusing to grant interviews or respond to post-match questions—an action considered a direct violation of AFCON media regulations.
In addition to the financial penalty, CAF issued a formal warning to the seven-time African champions, emphasizing that more severe sanctions will be enforced if similar conduct occurs again during the tournament.
CAF further stressed that Egypt must fully comply with media requirements following their upcoming fixture against South Africa, or risk facing heavier disciplinary measures, including potential escalated fines or sporting sanctions.
The continental football governing body stated that the ruling underscores its commitment to upholding media access standards, which are vital for transparency, fan engagement, and global coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF reaffirmed that adherence to media protocols is a non-negotiable responsibility for all participating teams, as media engagement plays a crucial role in promoting African football on the international stage.
