Young squad prepares for season opener with fresh looks and veteran goalkeeper addition
York United FC gave fans their first look at the club’s sharp new kits during an exclusive launch event this weekend, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting seventh season in the Canadian Premier League.
The club revealed two distinctive designs:
- A classic green and blue primary kit featuring traditional club colors
- A crisp white alternate kit with eye-catching hooped collar and sleeve details
While the official online reveal comes Monday, the event provided several key insights about York United’s 2025 campaign:
Veteran Goalkeeper Coming Soon
Despite currently having only teenage keepers Ivan Pavela (19) and Michael Williams (18) available, the club confirmed a season-long loan deal for an experienced Mexican goalkeeper. The international shotstopper will arrive in April, leaving the young duo to handle netminding duties for the season’s opening matches.
Youth Movement in Full Effect
With an average age of just 23 across 20 signed players, York United will field the CPL’s youngest squad in 2025. Remarkably, over half the roster hails from the Greater Toronto Area, creating strong local connections with the community.
Head coach Mauro Eustaquio, himself just 32 years old, remains confident in his young squad: “It’s a number that may look young, but we’re very mature,” Eustaquio stated. “We understand moments of the game, and I’m very confident we’ll showcase that talent.”
The coach emphasized that age won’t limit the team’s potential, pointing to the strong culture of mutual respect between players and staff. At 32, Eustaquio is just four years older than his most veteran player, 28-year-old Elijah Adekugbe.
York United kicks off their 2025 CPL season in just one week, with the new kits making their competitive debut. The bold designs reflect the club’s identity while symbolizing a fresh start for this promising young squad.
