York United FC Secure Midfield Maestro Gabriel Bitar in Exciting Two-Year Deal
York United FC is delighted to announce the acquisition of dynamic midfielder Gabriel Bitar from Vancouver FC, further bolstering their squad ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season.
The 26-year-old standout has signed a guaranteed two-year contract with The Nine Stripes, keeping him at York Lions Stadium until the end of 2026. As part of the deal, Vancouver FC will receive York United’s first pick in the 2026 CPL-U SPORTS Draft.
A Proven Talent with Impressive Stats
Bitar brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record from his two-season tenure with Vancouver FC. During his stint with The Eagles, he made 53 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and delivering eight assists. His first season saw him finish as Vancouver FC’s joint top-scorer in 2023, while his consistent performances in 2024 earned him three Gatorade Team of the Week honors and a Player of the Week accolade, thanks to a brilliant brace in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Forge FC.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Bitar said, “I’m delighted to sign and very excited to get started. York United made huge strides last season, and it was always tough playing against them. The team spirit and ambition here are contagious, and I’m looking forward to helping achieve something special for the supporters.”
An Outstanding Soccer Journey
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Bitar has been an integral figure in the CPL since its inception. His exceptional collegiate career with the Carleton University Ravens set the foundation for his professional success. A two-time U SPORTS All-Canadian, Bitar was named Ontario University Athletics East MVP and received the prestigious Lou Bilek Award as U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year in 2017. With 40 career goals, he remains second on Carleton’s all-time scoring list.
In 2018, Bitar was selected first overall in the CPL-U SPORTS Draft by Cavalry FC. He made his professional debut in the Canadian Championship against Pacific FC and has since showcased his skills in various clubs, including FC Edmonton, where he tallied five goals in the 2022 season. Bitar also had a brief stint in Lebanon—his parents’ birthplace—before returning to Canadian soccer.
His connection to Lebanon extends to international football, where he has earned eight caps for the senior national team, debuting in 2022 during a friendly against the UAE. Bitar has since featured in key matches, including FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
York United’s Strategic Vision
Bitar joins York United FC as their latest addition, following attacker Adonijah Reid and defender Riley Ferrazzo, with more signings expected in the coming weeks. Club President Ricardo Pasquel shared his excitement about the signing:
“Gaby has been on our radar for some time, and his profile aligns perfectly with our vision. His technical ability, composure in front of goal, and versatility are tremendous assets. He consistently delivers in key moments, and we are thrilled to have him join our squad.”
As York United builds on their progress from last season under Head Coach Mauro Eustáquio, Gabriel Bitar’s arrival promises to add creativity, consistency, and firepower in the midfield. Fans can eagerly anticipate his contributions as The Nine Stripes aim to make a strong impact in the upcoming CPL season.
