Pacific FC Re-Signs Captain Josh Heard to a Two-Year Contract Through 2026
On December 11, 2024, Pacific FC proudly announced the re-signing of forward and club captain Josh Heard to a two-year contract, extending his tenure with the team through the 2026 season. This agreement solidifies Heard’s place as a cornerstone of the Tridents’ lineup as he enters his sixth season with the club in the upcoming Canadian Premier League (CPL) campaign.
Since joining Pacific FC in July 2020, Heard has become a fan-favorite and an integral figure in the squad. Raised in Victoria after being born in Wales, Heard took on the captaincy in 2023, embracing the leadership role with determination and pride.
“This is my home and is where I wanted to be,” said Heard. “There’s no other place in Canada that I would want to play football.”
Last season, Heard made 18 appearances, logging 1137 minutes on the pitch. Although a knee injury sidelined him for part of the season, he returned to action in time to bolster Pacific’s attack during their crucial final matches. Heard’s contributions included two goals in 2024, one of which came during Pacific’s thrilling quarter-final victory against Atlético Ottawa in the TELUS Canadian Championship.
“Josh is an important player in our team,” said James Merriman, Head Coach of Pacific FC. “He gives everything in each match and every time he puts on the jersey, he plays with his heart on his sleeve. He is growing all the time in his leadership role as captain and continues to challenge the daily environment.”
A product of Vancouver Island’s local soccer system, Heard began his journey at Lakehill Soccer Association before moving on to Victoria Metro and the Highlanders. Now at age 30, he plays a pivotal role in mentoring Pacific FC’s younger players, bringing his experience and steady leadership to the forefront.
As Heard looks ahead to the 2025 season, his focus remains on driving the Tridents toward sustained success and building on their winning culture.
“I want to continue to build and recapture our past successes and what makes us who we are,” said Heard.
With Josh Heard at the helm, Pacific FC is poised to enter the new CPL season with both experience and ambition, striving to make their mark once again in Canadian soccer.
