CF Montréal Secures Star Forward Prince Owusu with Long-Term Contract Extension Through 2027-28
Montréal, Canada – CF Montréal has locked in their prolific striker Prince Owusu with a major contract extension, keeping the 28-year-old German-born forward at the club through the 2026, 2027 (sprint season), and 2027-2028 campaigns. The deal includes club options for the 2028-2029 and 2029-2030 seasons, secured using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
Owusu, who joined CF Montréal via trade from rivals Toronto FC on January 13, 2025, exploded onto the scene in his debut season, earning the prestigious Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy as the club’s 2025 Most Valuable Player. The powerful centre-forward netted an impressive 17 goals across all competitions – 13 in Major League Soccer (MLS), two in the TELUS Canadian Championship, and two in Leagues Cup – while contributing three assists in 40 appearances.
This extension underscores Owusu’s rapid rise in MLS soccer, making him only the fifth player in CF Montréal history to score 15 or more goals in a single season. A product of the renowned VfB Stuttgart Academy, Owusu has showcased leadership both on and off the pitch.
“Prince’s contract extension represents an acknowledgement of the consistency that he has brought to the Club since his arrival,” said CF Montréal Managing Director, Recruitment and Sporting Methodology, Luca Saputo. “His on-field achievements routinely reflect the daily leadership he demonstrates to his teammates. We’re very pleased that he has committed to our project.”
Owusu himself expressed delight at the news: “Montréal has become a special place for me. Extending my contract with CF Montréal is a source of pride, and I’m grateful to the club’s Sporting staff for its trust. I’m eager to continue this journey with my teammates and look forward to seeing our supporters again soon at Stade Saputo.”
On the international front, Owusu represented Germany at U15, U18, and U19 levels before earning his first call-up to the Ghana national team last month, highlighting his dual heritage and growing global profile.
