Cavalry FC Signs Rising Star Jay Herdman to 2025 Roster
Cavalry FC has officially secured forward Jay Herdman for their 2025 Canadian Premier League (CPL) roster, solidifying his place after an impressive loan spell in 2024.
The 19-year-old New Zealand-born forward made an immediate impact last season, recording one goal and one assist in just eight appearances after joining Cavalry on loan from Whitecaps FC 2 in September. Herdman’s contributions played a pivotal role in Cavalry FC clinching the North Star Cup as CPL Champions during his debut months with the team.
Before his success with Cavalry, Herdman had an outstanding run with Whitecaps FC 2, tallying six goals and three assists across 20 matches in the 2024 MLS Next Pro season. Additionally, he made his MLS debut for the Vancouver Whitecaps senior team in April, coming off the bench against Seattle Sounders FC.
Internationally, Herdman represents New Zealand and has already showcased his talent on the global stage. He made three appearances for the All-Whites’ U-23 squad, including during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, further highlighting his potential as a top-tier talent.
Head Coach & General Manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. praised Herdman’s versatility and tenacity:
“Jay was an important addition to our run-in last season and made an instant impact. He is a player that is very shifty and able to find or create space, as well as possesses a terrific competitive edge that suits our DNA.”
Cavalry FC is gearing up for their next challenge as they face Pumas UNAM in the first leg of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup round one on February 6 in Langford, BC.
